It seems people are disappointed that the great Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia failed to break his own world record in the marathon in Berlin last weekend. I guess winning his third marathon there wasn't enough! He was actually on pace for a new world record over the first 30 kilometers, but fell behind over the final 12 K. I think it would be better for the sport if people focused less on world records and more on competition -- after all, a close race is always exicting, but at some point there is a limit to human performance, and there just won't be any new world records. Having said all that, I'm still looking forward to the world's first sub-2 hour marathon. I do think it will happen!

Thanks for creating the blog. Breaking two hours will be phenominal task. However, winning at his current level of fitness also demonstrates a miraculous feet that has yet to be accomplished by man. I agree, we need to respect the accomplishments of his consistent wins. But, human expectations leads us to always want bigger, better, faster and more. If he dosen't break the record, his record will stand for some time. Yet, if he does, the bar has just been raised for the next athlete that goes AOAT.
